Registry Cleaner

Choose the Right Registry Cleaner:

The Windows operating system has a tragic flaw: the registry. The registry is an area that keeps records of changes to your system. Over the lifetime of your computer, it fills up with dead or corrupted entries that squander memory, cause slowdown and can sometimes crash your computer. Worse, malicious programs love the registry, as it's a great place for them to hide while they work their voodoo on your machine. (Goofing around with the registry can cause permanent damage to your computer, so it's generally hard for anti-malware software to go in there to find the bad guys.)

No wonder then, in the last couple of years, registry cleaners have proliferated, and are now one of the most-downloaded types of software. Once controversial, numerous studies have shown that using a reliable registry cleaner can result in real improvements for most computer users. The trick is, of course, finding the right one.

Speed Up Windows 7 - Change the Power Plan to Max

Speed Up Windows XP - Reduce the size of System Restore

What is System Restore?

System Restore helps you restore your computer's system files to an earlier point in time. It's a way to undo system changes to your computer without affecting your personal files, such as e‑mail, documents, or photos.
Sometimes, the installation of a program or a driver can cause an unexpected change to your computer or cause Windows to behave unpredictably. Usually, uninstalling the program or driver corrects the problem. If uninstalling does not fix the problem, you can try restoring your computer's system to an earlier date when everything worked correctly.

System Restore uses a feature called System Protection to regularly create and save restore points on your computer. These restore points contain information about registry settings and other system information that Windows uses. You can also create restore points manually.

System Restore is not intended for backing up personal files, so it cannot help you recover a personal file that has been deleted or damaged.

The Size of System Restore is set fairly high by default, around more than 10% which will affect your speed if your your available disk space is less. So you can try to set that to 3%, there's really no need to set it higher than that.

Speed Up Windows XP - Increasing Virtual Memory

Virtual memory, also known as a page file or swap file, is a file on your hard drive (C:\pagefile.sys by default) that Windows and applications use in addition to physical memory (RAM) as needed.

Optimizing your page file when you're running low on RAM is always a good idea. When all physical RAM in a computer is in use, Windows starts using the hard disk as if it were additional RAM. This is why we have a Pagefile (also called the swap file). Because RAM memory is a lot more faster than the hard disk, whenever the computer begins to use the Pagefile to relieve memory pressure, we begin to experience a drastic performance degradation.
One of the most effective things you can do to improve performance is ensure that there is enough RAM available to avoid frequent paging (swapping) of memory contents between disk and RAM.

This means that the actual limit on the memory used by all applications is the amount of RAM installed plus the maximum size of the Pagefile.

How much swap space do you need?

That depends the amount of RAM you have and the programs you use. The rule of the thumb is 1.5 times the amount of system memory(RAM).

Speed Up Windows 7-Disable the Aero Theme

The aero user interface adds some ” Eyecandy ” to Windows 7 but certainly is a resource hog especially when, what you expect from windows 7 is more performance. Aero user interface squeezes your graphics or video card to its maximum. So we can avoid the Windows 7 aero if we care more about speed and performance in Windows 7. So Disabling the Aero in Windows 7 certainly adds an extra speed boost to it.

1. Right Click on your Desktop and select ” Personalize ”

2. Then a Window " Change the visuals and sounds on your computer" will open.
